How Solar PV works
The daylight causes a reaction with the Solar Photovoltaic panel. This reaction causes direct current (DC) electricity to be generated.
In the UK we use
alternating current
(AC) to power our
homes and businesses
therefore the DC
electricity is
converted to AC by
an inverter.
The inverter is
monitoring the power
supplied to the
house and cleverly
matches the output
of the inverter to
the mains house
supply.
The electricity
generated is used by
all
the electrical
appliances in your
building (in the
normal way) before
you use the normal
electricity supply.
Therefore you are
not paying your
electricity company
whilst you are
generating
electricity form the
sun.
It does not need to
be sunny to generate
electricity, take a
look at our
example of live data
from a typical
install, obviously
the brighter the
weather the more
electricity will be
generated.
You benefit form
1) Not paying for electricity you generate and use.
2) Receiving the Feed In Tariff for every KW of energy you
generate (should be
41.3p per kw).
3) Receiving an additional 3p + unit price of electricity
(around12p) for your
surplus electricity.
